I live in Switzerland and am focused on database-centric development. I used the data dictionary and templates to generate code. Then I extended the data dictionary data with external meta-data in “.ini” files before I used Xtext to implement simple grammar to replace the old “.ini” files. I used Xtext also to maintain parsers for SQL*Plus, SQL and PL/SQL before I started to use ANTLR4. I do not consider myself a language engineer. It just happens that in my job I consider using tooling around a DSL as an appropriate solution for a problem.

I guess most people here end up being language engineers without considering to be one, or having aimed for it explicitly.
